V11.5
Overview
JES (Job Execution Service) hosts execute scheduled and system jobs. Previously, each job pointed at one named host or at "any host".
The following are the changes in how background jobs run on the platform.
- Job Host Groups: Jobs are no longer pinned to a named JES host (host instance) or to any host. Every JES host registers with a group name, and every job is assigned to a host group. A job runs only on hosts inside its group. This lets you scale JES hosts out and in per workload (for example, a dedicated group for high-volume file listeners) without touching job definitions.
Host group is a label attached to a JES host when it is deployed. All hosts sharing the same label form a group. A job is assigned to a group, not to a host. - Consolidated housekeeping: We have renamed the SSB Cleanup system job to SSB Housekeeping and have updated settings. It now also cleans up Integration Validation history.
Job scaling
For a job in a group, there can be two possible Scaling modes:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Single Host | One host in the group runs the job at a time. |
| Infinite Hosts | All hosts in the group run the job concurrently. A single host never runs the same job more than once at a time. |
Breaking change
After an upgrade, the existing jobs are migrated automatically to a group called Default. As an administrator review job assignments and plan new groups where needed.
